Zoning permits are reviewed within 10 business days. Construction permits take up to 20.

What to have ready

• The property block and lot, in the format 104-27
• A description of the work
• A sketch or plan showing what changes
• Contractor registration number, if you are using a contractor

Steps

1. Check whether the work needs a permit. Repairs in kind usually do not.
2. Apply for a zoning permit first if the work changes the footprint.
3. Apply for the construction permit once zoning is approved.
4. Book the inspections listed on your permit.
5. Ask for the certificate of approval when the work passes.
